Mexico

We just got home from a 9 day vacation in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Our first day was full of problems. The lady at the airport checking us in checked in my luggage, was in the process of checking in Todd's and then tells me "sorry I cant check his in, I'm 1 minute to late! Your going to have to fly to L.A. with the baby and we will put your husband on another flight" I've never been rude to someone helping me before but I was furious! I told her no way I'm not doing that. She finally admitted that it was her fault and they put us on a direct flight that left ten minutes later but arrived in Cancun about 3 hours earlier! Things seemed great when we arrived at our resort. When went to get dinner and when we came back we were locked out of our room. The key worked and would open the door a little bit but some how the dead bolt lock thing wasn't screwed into the wall enough so when we shut the door it locked us out! They had to break in through the sliding glass door but all that mattered was we were in! It was late and we were exhausted. I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth and I hear a loud crash! I come out and the bed was broken. All Todd did was sit on the bed and the wood frame broke in half! Back to the front desk we went with another complaint! They were so nice and fast to fix things! They mexican style screwed it back together and called it good. While all this is happening, I'm in the bathroom trying to get Crew ready for bed and give him a bath. The drain stopper doesn't clog the tub! So they had to get a new one and fix that also! They didn't have another room for us to stay in that night but they moved us to a new room first thing in the morning. Things after that went great! This is a picture of Crew after his first time swimming in the Ocean. He loved the ocean, having the waves splash his face, and throwing sand.

We spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach.

About a mile from our resort was 5th Avenue where there is miles and miles of shopping, dining, and night life. Our first night there Crew was sleeping and Todd wanted to hold the monkey's. Crew had a rude awakening to them on his lap. Poor kid had no idea what was going on!

On Monday morning we went to Tulum, Mayan Ruins. It was very cool and our tour guide was great. She gave us the perfect amount of information without boring us! I swear everywhere we looked there were iguana's sunbathing!

After Tulum it was time to cool off by snorkeling at Xel-Ha. This place is amazing. The water was so clear and calm. The ocean water meets with river water in the cove (which means "Xel-Ha", pronounced "ShellHa"). It was my first time seeing a sting ray in the wild!

On Tuesday we left Crew with a babysitter so Todd and I could take a boat ride 30 minutes to the Island of Cozumel. While we were there we rented a car and drove around the whole island. It was the prettiest water I have ever seen! We also ate at Senor Frogs, went snorkeling...where we saw another sting ray, and walk, walk, walked! Cozumel was having a parade that night and the streets were packed, everyone was getting crazy!

The next day (Wednesday) it was time to relax again and take it easy. My skin was crazy while we were there. I rarley get sunburned and usually never wear SPF! Well things changed and I was getting fried even while wearing SPF 50! Must be something about being pregnant! By the end of everyday I had sunburned feet, with huge swollen ankels that had fat rolls! It was so attractive and it felt so good! Crew wasn't really good at taking his naps but Todd pushed him in this hammock for awhile and Crew took a good nap (look closely and you will see Crew in the hammock)!

The whole area is surrounded by the jungle. On Wednesday we went to Coba and visited more ruins. The ruins are all through the jungle, it's miles and mile's long! We had the Mexican workers peddle us on three wheel bikes! On our way there our tour guide took us to a tiny village in the middle of the jungle. We visited a family that had 16 kids, no running water, and no electricity! I can't even imagine living like that. It was very eye opening and a great experience. I think it could have easily been the highlight of my trip. The "Maria Family" had a pet monkey named Natasha. I was learning how to make tortilla's (keep in mind they grew the corn and everything to make these!) when Natasha came over to me and grabbed my arm, I was nervous! It all happened so quickly! The family was nervous also because they didn't know what she was going to do! She snatched the tortilla and ran out of the house as fast as she could! What a relief! Everyone was laughing so hard! The family also makes hammocks. It takes about three weeks to make one and they sell them for only $30.00. After we left the house we ate lunch at a resturant right next to the Mayan ruins. The resturant over looked this discusting lake! The lake has crocodiles in it and if you want you can take a zip-line across the whole lake! No Thanks!

After we left the Ruins we went to an underground cave that was just recently discovered! It's really far underground and has the clearest light blue water I have ever seen! The spiral staircase leading into the cave has "diving boards" that you can jump off of. Todd jumped off all of them! I decided not to get in the water, I was feeling a little closterphobic in there! There also were huge stalagtites hanging around! It was amazing!

Ever since Todd served his mission in Mexico he talks about Taco's Al Pastor. He couldn't wait to have another one! The locals told us to eat at El Fagon. It was delicious! I ordered lemonade, which was really limeade and it was the best thing I've ever drank! We also ordered another drink (don't know what it's called) but it was like chocolate milk and banana mixed together and it was delicious also!

One bummer of the trip was swimming with dolphins! It was and still is on my bucket list. We had it all planned and paid for but when we got there they wouldn't let me do it because I'm pregnant! I talked Todd into still doing it and he said that he was disappointed it wasn't what he expected. Oh well, it looked like he enjoyed himself and I think he talks it down a little so I won't cry about it! When they told me that I couldn't go I almost started to cry! Todd said "Are you going to cry?!?" Me "No!" and then I ran off because I really was going to but I didn't want to cry over something so stupid! HAHA Todd wanted to take Crew to swim with him but I told him no, just go enjoy yourself. While Todd was doing his thing Crew and I had a little photoshoot! This is Crew's new thing, he'll see the camera and give this look as he says "cheese"! I don't know where he learned it but I love it! It's so cute!

These are just a few pictures of our resort..

On Friday we went to a place called Akmal. It's a turtle sanctuary. They come there to eat, breed, and lay eggs. I didn't take any pictures but we took a little motor boat out into the cove and snorkeled around. We saw 5 giant turtles. Two turtles had fish eating off of them. We also saw another sting ray, squid, and lot's of fish!

By the time the vacation was coming to an end we were ready to come home. As much as I love the beach and was sad to say goodbye, Crew was making it really hard. He wouldn't eat or sleep. He was miserable! He would cry if we were holding him, he would cry if we weren't. He would even cry if we looked at him! He is usually so good and easy but he missed home! On our last day there, Sunday he woke up at 4:30 in the morning! Let's just say it was a treat and I felt bad for the people around us on the airplane! Our plane left late and we didn't get home until 2:00 A.M. on Monday morning! This is what the next day consisted of......

Loads and loads of muggy, sick, dirty clothes! Lucky me! I love looking forward to vacation, I love every minute while I'm there, but most of all I love coming home!

I have always wondered how Maeva would do on a trip like this. Wondering at her age if it'd even be worth it to take her... Maybe I will wait a little while? Although, from the pictures it looks so fun and like Crew enjoyed it too. I can't believe how big he is now! Him & Maeva really do need to play together. She would love that!

Yeah, who baby-sat? It looks like you guys had a rockin' time! Jealous. So sad that you couldn't swim with the dolphins. If it was something I had had my heart set on, I probably would have cried too.

I think it's great you took Crew! You don't need no babysitters, the kids love to travel. Expose them to new cultures, new experiences, different languages at an early age. You and Todd can revisit your favorite places later.

Todd knew the family that took us on all of our tours and their daughter watched Crew for the day!
